Design Engineer – EnTox Sciences Location: Seattle, WA Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 base salary + performance bonus + equity package

Role Overview We are seeking a Design Engineer with 2–4 years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields. This role is hands-on, multidisciplinary, and focuses on the design, fabrication, and integration of EnTox’s instrumentation. You will work across mechanical, electrical, and software domains to build systems that directly support biomedical research. EnTox Sciences works closely with Dr. Ian Sweet’s laboratory at the University of Washington, where the collaboration is supported by STTR grants from the NIH and NSF. EnTox is positioning itself as a leader in analytical instruments that assess the rapid effects of biomedically important dissolved gases including O2, CO2, and gas signaling molecules H2S, CO and NO on cells and tissue. Recent results have revealed differences between effects of the physiological gas vs. commonly used donor molecules (1) indicating the critical need for specialized equipment to study dissolved gases. In particular, resolving rapid changes in cell function in response to changes in O2 revealed novel mechanisms of acute regulation in response to hypoxia and hyperoxia (2). Key Responsibilities
Design & Fabrication
Model parts using AutoCAD/Fusion 360
Select and integrate commercially available components
Fabricate custom parts via 3D printing and small-scale manufacturing
Systems Integration
Assemble and wire electrical components (temperature controllers, light sources, photodetectors)
Integrate Arduino boards and similar controllers for flow systems and motors
Build complete instruments from printed/manufactured parts
Software & Data
Program in Python, C++, or Go for data acquisition, controls, and user interfaces
Alpha-test and modify existing software
Process experimental data with EnTox software and generate reports
Customer & Team Support
Train technical staff on instrument operation
Troubleshoot user techniques and instrumentation issues (real-time and data-based)
Contribute to design improvements based on customer feedback
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or related Engineering field
2–4 years of relevant experience in design, fabrication, or instrumentation
Proficiency in CAD software (Fusion 360 preferred)
Experience with 3D printing, electronics assembly, and programming (Python/C++/Go)
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across disciplines
Excellent communication skills for technical training and customer support
